When looking for landscaping ideas for your home, there are a multitude of resources available to inform and inspire you. First, consider what area of your yard or lawn you wish to landscape. There are many areas of your home’s exterior that would benefit from landscaping. This could be your front yard, back yard, side yard, sidewalk areas, sheds, gardens, patios, decks, pool areas, etc.

Next, make note of all of the areas that you are considering, and then proceed to look for your landscaping ideas. Many good resources are available to you when researching ideas for your home’s landscape. These include online websites, which offer numerous articles and photos, as well as books and magazines on the topic. You will be able to see what appeals to you and glean much inspiration from these resources. Talk to your friends and family, whose landscaping you admire, to get their input, ideas and advice. They can be a wealth of information as you make your landscaping decisions, and are usually quite flattered that you are seeking their input on the topic. Also, drive around local neighborhoods and see what appeals to you. Make note of style, design, exteriors, and types of plants, trees and flowers that interest you. Try to get a sense of what appeals to you about each particular design that catches your eye. Is it a particular tree or shrub that you admire? Or the overall color scheme? These are all things to consider when planning your own home’s landscape. A visit to your local nursery will also be helpful. There, you will not only be able to see the plants, trees and flowers up close, but you will also be able to tap into the knowledge of the employees of the nursery, who will be glad to answer any questions you may have about what they have available. Some things to consider are, how large the plantings will grow, whether they require sun, shade, or partial shade, how much moisture they require, etc. Be sure to take notes on all of this information as well, as you will want to refer back to it when finalizing your landscaping plans.

Planning and carrying out landscaping ideas can be one of the most rewarding experiences you will have as a home owner. Proper research when planning will help you make sure that you will enjoy your choices for many years to come.

There are many factors to consider when coming up with a landscaping design for your own home. The style of your home, the size of your yard, your family’s needs, and, of course, your budget, all come into play. Also think about what areas are the most important to you, such as your front yard, back yard, patio, pool, garden, play areas, etc. You can prioritize your areas, and tackle them one project at a time. Perhaps you will want to landscape your front yard first, since that is the area that is most often seen by passersby. Landscaping your back yard, patio, pool or play area, will increase your enjoyment of your own outdoor amenities and enhance the recreational time you and your family spend at home.

When planning your landscaping design, it might be helpful to first photograph your home and yard, particularly the areas you wish to landscape. Next, search books, magazines, and online websites for inspiration and ideas. This will give you an idea of the styles, designs, and colors that appeal to you. Also consider such things as size, color, amount of sunlight, drainage, future growth, existing structures, etc., when narrowing down your choices. Find out which plants and trees do well in sunlight, shade, partial shade, etc. Make note of which plants require moist or dry soil, and think about how much time you are willing to invest in upkeep such as watering, pruning, trimming, etc. Other things you might consider are plants that assist in noise reduction, add privacy, and those that will block or allow sunlight into your home. Next, study the pictures you have taken, and visualize the trees, shrubs and flowers that you are thinking about utilizing to landscape your home. Computer software programs might also be helpful, as they allow you to actually see your plans in place, before you make your purchases and invest your time and money to follow through with them. Another helpful tool is drawing the area on paper, which helps you give proper scale to the items you are considering. Have fun playing around with several different ideas, as this is the stage in your project that allows you the freedom to do so, before any monetary investment is actually made.

Whatever you decide in your landscaping design, you can be sure it will help increase your curb appeal and your personal enjoyment of your home for many years to come.

Home Landscaping can be a challenging, yet rewarding, undertaking. Too often, landscaping of our homes is low on our priority list. However, extending the interior beauty of your home to the outside, allows your home to shine in its best light. It also will enable the personality and style of your home to be apparent by others, when approached from any angle. This is helpful, not only for enjoying your home now, but will also increase your property value, should you decide to sell your current residence in the future.

There are many areas of your home’s exterior that can be considered for home landscaping. Among those areas are the front yard, back yard, side yards, entrance, garden and pool areas, etc. Think about the message and feeling you want your home to convey. The entrance could say “Welcome”, while the back yard says “Sit and relax awhile”. Also consider the style and architectural features of your home, current landscaping which is already in place, the colors that exist, and those that would complement your home most. Think of landscaping your home’s exterior as outfitting your home in its best attire, and putting its best foot forward. This can be accomplished by many methods, such as adding trees, bushes and shrubbery, flowers, water features, pathways and walkways, exterior lighting, entertainment areas, outdoor furniture, additional structures, etc. When considering these ideas, also think about the uses you want for your outdoor space. You can really extend the square footage of your home by adding outdoor areas in which to spend your time, whether it be cooking, dining, playing games, entertaining, or just relaxing after a long day.

You will want to do your research when considering home landscaping. Drive through area neighborhoods and see what appeals to you. Make note of the features that you like and dislike about other homes and lawns. Also, look at photographs of homes and their landscaping for inspiration. These photographs can be found in magazines, books, and on numerous online websites. You can also study how large certain trees and shrubs grow, and consider that when placing them in your landscaping. Keep in mind that your additions will start out smaller than those you see, but what you are going for is the end result, and patience with your planning (and plantings!) will certainly pay off. Landscaping your home is an investment that will definitely reap big results and enhance your enjoyment of your home for many years to come!
